set me free – 9/15/07

9/15/07 – 10/7/07

set me free

towards my destination weeks i’ve been walking
finally here and i wish i was still crawling
at my crossroad i saw a thief and a priest
and to my surprise the thief had prepared a feast
he said pull up a chair one minute and this foods done
he looked to me and said don’t be harsh, but i stole this bread

the priest overheard and shot him dead
in his dying words he sang to me
i thought i was wrong, but i finally see
could you would you please tell the priest
that it was his aim not god that

set me free

now there’s new guns all duds
got my feet dragging in new muds
we all share the same sun and same love
but now there’s no luck
now my silver-lining’s turned to rust
every little thought now doesn’t matter much
they say no jail the breads stale
i say oh well wars hell
didn’t realize it was my soul i’d sell

we were both afraid when he shot me dead
in my dying words i sang to the sea
that i did not want that victory
could you please tell the electee
that it was his words that

set me free
