pretend like we did – 10/4/07

10/4/07

pretend like we did

these settings won’t fit the bill

for the characters i’m no fan
stuck looking for photosynthesis
in a couple of tin cans

these giants want to block the sun
stealing jobs from the moon
you don’t see it but i know; i know
not long you’ll hatch from your cocoon

there’s no reason for running
we didn’t rob, cheat, or kill
but we’ll pretend like we did
just to wear out those wheels

let’s go

we could skim the lands that hide between
place some pollen memories in our cart
won’t want to see any crowded capitals
so don’t skip to your favorite part

might not be pages or plots to twist
but from cover to cover i’ll read
it’s just something that must be done
without rhythm you can’t lead

there’s no reason for running
we didn’t rob, cheat, or kill
but we’ll pretend like we did
just to wear out those wheels

let’s go

can’t explain why i want to stick around
you’re singing what’s been said & what’s wrote
my dress shoes are wet from puddles
and i don’t see anyone laying coats

it is my choice to come or let be
but there’s so many feathers on my head
it’s just a shame to see me sleep here
when i look like a stranger in my bed

there’s no reason for running
we didn’t rob, cheat, or kill
but we’ll pretend like we did
just to wear out those wheels

let’s go

no more dress up – 9/20/07

9/20/07

no more dress up

little growing cells change your mind
before you swim toward the fluorescent light
you know the grass is not so soft
molecules in the air just ain’t right

i know i don’t make good impressions
they wouldn’t let me on the ark
dressed up like a wild dog
was found out when i tried to bark

but now you’re here
and it doesn’t matter
my mind is clear
no more chatter

now i’m sitting in a chair with three legs
trying not to lean the wrong way
there was a time when left and right met middle
before black and white killed gray

and the wind flees with worried clouds
leaving nothing for the chimes
i try to give them my two cents
but it isn’t worth a dime

but now you’re here
and it doesn’t matter
my mind is clear
no more chatter

tiny bones – 9/18/07

9/18/07

tiny bones

i feel like dancing i’m an uprooted maple tree
i’ll shake off my red orange leaves
i know i’m through
and now leaves wave bye i’ll need you to stay
that love of yours keeps father breeze away
i know it will

oh papa is it real?

because i don’t need a fortune cookie to give a sign
to know your tiny bones were meant for me
your a treasure i’m too selfish to hide
you belong on my christmas tree

now that i’ve caught you i’ll keep you near
lady bug come crawl on my ear
you’ll know i’m safe
when the wind picks you up you can hide in my throat
warm you while humming quarter notes
you’ll hear my love

oh papa is it real?

because i don’t need a fortune cookie to give a sign
to know your tiny bones were meant for me
your a treasure i’m too selfish to hide
you belong on my christmas tree

set me free – 9/15/07

9/15/07 – 10/7/07

set me free

towards my destination weeks i’ve been walking
finally here and i wish i was still crawling
at my crossroad i saw a thief and a priest
and to my surprise the thief had prepared a feast
he said pull up a chair one minute and this foods done
he looked to me and said don’t be harsh, but i stole this bread

the priest overheard and shot him dead
in his dying words he sang to me
i thought i was wrong, but i finally see
could you would you please tell the priest
that it was his aim not god that

set me free

now there’s new guns all duds
got my feet dragging in new muds
we all share the same sun and same love
but now there’s no luck
now my silver-lining’s turned to rust
every little thought now doesn’t matter much
they say no jail the breads stale
i say oh well wars hell
didn’t realize it was my soul i’d sell

we were both afraid when he shot me dead
in my dying words i sang to the sea
that i did not want that victory
could you please tell the electee
that it was his words that

set me free

shiny strings – 9/13/07

9/13/07

shiny strings

oh i said how many styles of string can you find girl?
if i asked your favorite, would you mind girl?
i just seen so many of your kind girl
with your material eyes, you just wanna wrap your thighs

around something shiny and torn
but baby does it keep you warm?

because from here, your closet’s the only thing that’s grown
even with all those clothes you are still cold
why don’t you try settling down with some simpler things?
you’ve got to stop with all those shiny strings

i can see that boy, he starts to unravel
because you know them rags aren’t fit for travel
i’m just a little too late, too afraid that you are unkind
stop your material eyes, you just wanna wrap your thighs

around someone shiny and torn
but baby can he keep you warm?

because from here, your closet’s the only thing that’s grown
even with all those men you are still cold
why don’t you try settling down with some simpler things?
you’ve got to stop with all those shiny strings
